point cloud link not visible after saving project.

i'm having trouble viewing a point cloud in a rivet project after saving and reopening the project.

so i started a new project and inserted a .rcp point cloud that we received from the building owner. i was able to bring it in, view and aligned with no problems. then i started to trace and insert fabrication parts. everything work and operated normal. so i save the project and close the app. then when i go to reopen the project the point cloud is not visible.  so i go to manage links and the point cloud is still loaded with the correct path to its location. so i hit the reload button and nothing. so i use the reload from button select the same file location and apply with no luck. then i remove the point cloud then add the point cloud from the same path and then we get the point cloud to be visible.

the strange thing is in the same project i inserted the same point cloud and then inserted a different point cloud from a scan that we did for a different project. then i save and reopen and only our in house point cloud is visible.

anyone else having these issues?

so this is what i did to get the pointcloud to show in the views after saving the Revit project. This point cloud was given to us from the building owner. i opened it Recap and it look good, then inserted the .rcp into a revit project, then i had the visibility issues.

i got the same .rcp file opened in Recap ,created a new orgin then saved .rcp. i then loaded the pointcloud link into Revit and saved the Revit project.  Now i can see the point cloud in the reopen Revit project.

i'm not sure why i had to do this or why its working. still a little confused.

Sounds like you discovered a workaround. Maybe I'll use it someday.

This appears to still be a problem.

I upgraded a Revit model received from a scanning company (surveyor), from 2019 to 2021.

They have already referenced in the point cloud, so I simply "reload from" the new location where I've save the point cloud to.

The point cloud appears.

Then, when I unload it, and go to reload it again, without any changes to anything else, it doesn't appear.

The manage links window says it's loaded, but it isn't visible anymore.

Any solutions, anyone?

creating a new origin in recap was the only way I was able to do a work around.

I will try this, BUT, does the reload then insert the point cloud in a different location, requireing that it be adjusted to its desired location once it appears again?

This did not work for me.

Using Manage Links I removed the point Cloud.

The I added the same point cloud back into the project.

BUT, I had to rotate it to get the prooper north direction, then move it horizontally into position over the property, then move it vertically to get the elevations synced up. (I guess that the point cloud should be in the proper orientation and coordinate system when it comes in but I did not create it in the first instance.

Now I seem to be able to unload , and then reload at will now, as it is supposed to work.

Why I need to go through this is a mystery.

It is nice to see that the reply to the post you started helped you resolve the issue and now you can catch up with the deadline

its been a while since i had the issue, but yes i was able to set a new origin in recap. hopefully you can get your project out time and cross your fingers. some of these point clouds can get massive so having the ability to manage the points is helpful. make sure you pin down the point cloud so it doesn't get bumped. good luck!

Having the same issue. The solution I have so far is uploading those pointclouds in BIM360 to make them available for other users. But after some fruitless attempts of using them from BIM360 and see them appear back after restarting Revit I copied the files to my local hard drive and since then I have no problems anymore. I do have an issue with the Autodesk Desktop connector though. It seems to be stuck on a file it is trying to synchronize in the background. I only see proof of this being the case when I shut down my computer at the end of the day.

Is it possible that at first the file is visible in Revit but if the synchronisation fails the pointcloud becomes empty or something?

A pointcloud has no model category. Visibility can have to do with phasing, workset or design option.
