Using revit 2023. Downloaded the English Imperial Component file off of autodesk website. Everytime I try to select an object like a window or door from "place components" to place onto my model I get the message that "Some or all of the families selected are not of the category components. Do you want to retry loading a new set of files". I need specific windows and doors that are on the English Imperial Component file for my project but I keep getting that message. How do I get them on to my building?

There are Window & Door tools on the architecture tab that you can use to load in and place windows and doors. Windows and Doors get their own tools, while the majority of other families will be placed by using the Component tool.
It's worth checking all the other tools in the architecture, structure, & systems tabs as they will often be the best way to place those specific families. All other families will be available through the Component tool.
No, I get that. I need specific doors (like floor to ceiling sliding doors, garage doors, etc) that are on the file you can download from autodesk but not part of the standard doors and windows that come with revit. So I have to place them as a component. But it keeps not letting me grab them from the already downloaded file and gives me that error message.
In addition to the previous message, remember that you don't have to download families. There's also Insert > Load Autodesk Family", which gives you access to the same content, from an online source, instead of using space in your computer.
Because you are using the place component tool which will not work with doors and windows. Use the door and window tools to load in the families that you need, or use the insert family tool under the 'Insert" Tab.
