Plan view fill-Color for beams

My goal is to create a plan view were all beams have the color red as a fill-color.

So far I created view filters for the beams with red fill for plan view and cut view.

In the visibility and Graphics settings under Model categories I found the beams-category and changed everything to red. I right-clicked on the beams and changed the element filter to red. I set the disipline to coordination. I moved the beams up and down to see if it had something with the view depth to do.

When I give the beams an angle they also become red (Fill color). If I give the beams a heigth of 4 meters, they become red. When the height of the beams are adjusted to 3 meters, they are not red anymore, only the borderline is still red. Im using Revit 2022.1. I am wondering if beams in revit are always projected onto the view plans as a Detailelement, but when you click it it says its a beam? That could explain why my cut sections are showing red beams and my view plans are not. Can anyone help me here? I tried different approches found in Web, but so far nothing helped. Am I forced need to change the material display settings?

No...they do not always project as detail elements. It depends if it has been modeled as such.

You did not share any screenshots of the filters you have set and the overrides. If the Beam is showing its geometry in Pln/RCP you should also be able to override the surface patterns using the filter or simply overriding the category

Try to add something we can look at in order to guide you properly

Skelletbau = Strucktural framing

Tragwerk = Structure

Screenshots:

- Cut plane deselected with only model category set to red

- cut plane with beam selected

What I meant, if you edit the Beam/Zug family >> Select the 3D Geometry in a 3D View >> Check Display/Visibility Settings... Some Structural framing families are modeled to use Detail Lines or nested Detail items in PLAN/RCP view. If it is the case, these have no surface to be overridden....Man macht das, weil im Grundriss die Unterzüge sind oberhalb den schnitt Bereich sind. Deshalb braucht man die 2D Linien anstatt die 3D Objekt umzusehen

From what I could understand from all the attachments is the following

  • You have applied Element Override (by right clicking element and overriding its graphics in view)
  • You have  overridden category in visibility graphics
  • You have applied a view filter
  • I am also suspecting you have Phase overrides also applied

Zuerst das ist mehr als so viel! Du sollst entweder oder verwended.

  1. Reset all the above
  2. Use only the category override via the Visibility Graphics dialogue (Unless you want to have different colors for different beam types)
  3. Check the Beam Family if it is setup to display 2D lines instead of geometry...if it is the case
    • Either make sure the 3D object is visible in 3D + use Structural view looking up instead of looking down
    • Or add a red filled region to display in Plan and RCP views

You car welcome to attach the beam family if you need help with it

I selected the family und clicked "Edit Family". Then I selected the Sweep Structure und clicked the visibility settings. Here I saw that the Plan View was deactivated (Grundriss/Deckenplan):

It did change activate it and loaded the Family back:

Thanks a lot for your help RDAOU 🙂

@RDAOU

Your right, there were too many changed settings to red, and the deactivation of Plan view inside the Family might be because sometimes you dont like to see the 3D element and only the lines. Nevertheless if that is the case, then I think it better practice to add a sub category to the Volume element inside the family. This way its up to the user to hide this part of the family via the Model categories in the visibility settings.
