The view is Level 1 but you are placing it on Level 2 (look at the option bar information).  Change to Level 1 from the dropdown, place and you can see it.  Then go to Level 2 or 3D view and delete the one you placed earlier.

i'm sorry but that, changing the option to unconstrained nor level one, did
not work.

What are the view range settings? Also, I would create the framing plan using View > New > Structural Plan.

Thanks.

But I had to switch to the first floor plan instead and found the columns.
This was not in the tutorial. The tutorial needs to be revised to inform
the students of this error that columns are in the first floor plan not
first floor plan structural plan. Then the top offset and top constraint
are changed per tutorial after the modified button is selected

It is not an error...you just need to use the right type of plan view. Structural Plan views has 2 Types

  1. View Direction - Down
  2. View Direction - UP (ie: similar to reflected ceiling plans)

Depending on the Type of view (Looking Up or Looking Down), while placing Structural columns, you need to Define the Direction of placement Height (from the Level upwards) or Depth (From the Level Downwards)

Remember: the View Range in upwards plan views most likely will not cover certain elements ... but view range will be a topic you should get to later in the tutorials
