Here in Halifax we have viewplanes that we have to follow for building heights. I'm trying to make a family that has all the viewplanes created as masses which you could then place into a model. We tend to have all of our models located with real-world coordinates Nova Scotia MTM Zone 5 to be exact. I'm just wondering if there is a way to place the viewplane family into a model at specific coordinates based on the survey coordinates.

Perhaps you could:
Put the families in a Linked model (.rvt) and place them at the correct Levels/heights, then link the .rvt file into your main model using the shared coordinate system.
The issue is that I have to link the files first, then somehow move the family in the linked file to the correct coordinates and then I am able to Share Coordinates. Ultimately I would like to have the viewplane family/model automatically move to the correct coordinates in any project when linked. The reason being, I want this to be as user friendly as possible.
As far as I know, a Family cannot be automatically placed at a survey point in a project. Nor does a Family have an "origin" relative to a coordinate system.
So--my idea was to create a new .rvt file, and insert the family at the Survey Point.
Then, Link this file containing the family at the survey point, and align it to the survey point in the main project.
Not sure if this is what you need to do--just an idea for getting a Family to Insert at a Survey Point.
An analogy would be placing a Block in AutoCad at 0,0,0, then xrefing the .dwg file containing the block into another .dwg using origin to origin.
The problem with that is there is no option to place link at survey point. Only Center to Center, Project Base Point or Origin to Origin.
Can you move the PB to the Survey Point, then Link the file at PB Point?
