Pick multiple lines using pick line tool

Hi there!!!

Greetings, I need to draft a drafting view according to cad drawing, I can explode cad into my revit, but is there any techniques to select multiple lines at one click or drag. Please let me know if there is any way to achieve that.

Thank you in advance.

Drag box, CTRL+click, Select all and use the Filter tool. Numerous ways.

FYI though, most companies have policies against exploding DWG's in Revit models as they bring over a lot of unwanted line and fill types into the model. It is customary to link and trace.

Hi mpwuzhere, thank you very much for your reply,

I do not want to explode cad into my drafting view, without exploding the cad I need to pick multiple lines in imported cad by using pick line tool. Kindly explain furthermore.

Thanks.

You can do it using your Tab key

Well I am making a very large city in Revit and I am picking lines to make roads. But picking all the lines one by one (by using the Tab key) is taking forever! The city is so large and its taking time to pick all lines. Any advice?

Is there no way to pick all lines from one layer in one go?

Did you ever figure this out?  I want to pick all lines at once but don't know how.  I have been using the tab but would like to pick all at once.

Same question here. I'm trying to figure out a way to pre-process in rhino, maybe that's a start.

The solution is to re-import as DWG and it should work properly.

Depending on the topo, you may want to project onto a plane then export that as DWG because it seems to give Revit unnecessary strain to pick the 3D lines

Hi there,

There is a workaround I am using, you might try it and see if it helps.

Create a new Family or a Project (use units you need and the one to match the cad you trying to trace)

Remember, you can only copy-paste lines between two families or between two projects.

(There is a workaround for this too)

Import CAD to empty Family or Project, explode as much as you need to get the linework you need.

Now you have your lines as like you have traced/picked them. Copy and paste them wherever you want them to be, align and that's it.

You can even control the layers and turn off lines you don't need, so that would make selection easier.

Hope this will help you 🤓

Tab tool as earlier is the best solution for this.

If you're only able to select one line with it, you have to prepare the CAD drawing in Autocad.

- Create layers in autocad so you can change the visibility of specific sets of lines

- Set the visibility of all layers but one to off

- Select all line and use the join command to create polylines

- Using the trim tool get rid of unwanted lines

- Repeat the last two steps to create as few polylines as possible

- Load the .dwg into Revit

- Because they are now polylines you can use the TAB function with picklines to select the entire polyline

- Make sure you are in a 2D view that is not cropped, if this is not the case, sometimes it won't select multiple lines at once.

Hi! I've been struggling with this same issue for a few days for a conceptual project. I tried to do everything! The easiest thing I've found so far is to extrude in Autocad first, then, import into Revit and explode. I'm not sure if this makes sense for what you are doing, I am doing a conceptual idea of a topo map, but after days of frustration, this simple idea really helped me.
