Ya know....if you are going to use the same Draw Tools palette for multiple commands, make sure they all work the same.
Such is the case of the "Pick Line" tool when creating Area Plan Boundaries...The Help pop out says it can pick lines, walls, or edges...but guess what...it only picks walls. How about fixing this and show the "Pick Wall" button instead of "Pick Line"? It exists...you can use it for floors and ceilings...
I was going to call this a bug report....but I know bug reports on the Forum won't do anyone any good....and I'm probably bringing up something that has always been this way.![]()
If you need to use this feature one work around is to export the view to DWG and then reimport. Then you can use the pick lines tool like you normally would. I also use a technique to to create subregions where I draw one subregion and then I copy it and save. Then when I start my next sub region I paste the first one (aligned to selected level) as a starting point for the next one. This allows you to use the exact same lines through multiple views.

While in the Area Boundary command, unclick "Apply Area Rules" in the Options Bar and the pick tool will let you select any edge.
