can someone please help on phases and phase filters i cant get my head round them. I have a project which only needs 2 phases and existing one which i want to show everything as it is and a remaining one which is going to show whats left after the demo work.I think i only need to worry about steps 2 and 3 show complete which i want to be the finished step and step 3 show demolished and existing which i want to represent the existing stage. Can someone please let me know what i need to set the object phase and phase filter to to get this to work? i can geting bits in grey and i dont want in grey and some bits not showing i want showing.. thanks
Yeah, can be confusing at the beginning.
You mention steps 2 and 3. This is what is causing the confusing. The screenshot you show are the filters. The filters are not steps (just arbitrary sequence numbers). In each view you can apply one of the filters.
Depending on the chosen phase for a particular view the filter will show elements in a certain way.
For example you have two phases in your projects "existing" (oldest) and "new construction" (newest).
Imagine that your view is set to "new construction". In case you apply the filter "Show Complete" (as in the screenshot).
-Objects that are added in the "new construction" phase will be "Not Displayed"
-Objects that are existing (coming from previous phases)in the "new construction" phase will be "Overridden"
-Objects that are demolished in the "new construction" phase will be "Overridden"
-Objects that are temporary (created and then demolished) in the "new construction" phase will be "Not Diplayed"
The overridden settings can be found in the "Graphic Overrides" tab of the phases window
You can check your phases settings what will happen when you when you (instead of the "Show Complete" filter) select the filter "Show demolished + Exisiting".
So the filter will show objects in a certain way depending on the phase you have selected for the view. This means that the filter for "New", "Existing", "Demolished" and "Temporary" is relative to the chosen phase of your view

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.
You may want to check out the help topic on phasing. There is a short video showing some basics at the top level topic, but be sure to look at the other topics in the phasing section of help. It can be a confusing topic, bu the help topics might get you pointed in the right direction.

Filters are what make it possible to show different states of the same phase, e.g. Demolition plan, New plan. I see you modified all the Filters in your screenshot and that's adding more confusions to the subject. My advice is leave them stock until you understand more clearly Phase, Phase Filter, Phase Overridden more clearly.
Go through the HELP given by @loboarch and the explanation by @L.Maas thoroughly. I also gave you a file from a stock Template settings with plan views created for different Phases with different Filters so you can see which one does what.
