I'm working on a historic building so existing walls have been modelled in place to accurately pick up the variation in thicknesses around the building. The walls are set to Existing phase.
When I add window openings to the New Construction phase, the new window openings are cutting the walls in the Existing phase. The window frame itself is only there in New Construction, but I can't see why the structural opening is carrying through all phases?
The same happens when Existing windows are set to be demolished in New Construction - the window itself disappears but the structural opening remains into the New Construction phase. Any ideas how to fix?

My assumption is You have set the wrong Phase Filters with respect to the view Phase
Its a guessing game without any model to look at

I think you're confusing with the Wall Infill.

That is a limitation of Phasing In-Place wall elements.
Although it is a wall category but it will not Phase as a wall---The automatic Infill from Demo of inserts does not work for in-Place walls (Therefore when you are placing a new window in Existing Wall, the opening not being infilled in the previous phase.. Another Example:
Basic wall + Window: Both Created new construction ==>> Demo the window and show complete (An infill will be automatically generated)
Model in Place wall + Window: Both Created new construction ==>> Demo the window and show complete (No infill generated)

Is the client expecting LIDAR Level of Accuracy to be incorporated into the model? Are you to introduce “errors” captured into your model by modeling them in an ortho fashion? If so, you will spend a tremendous amount of time trying to get Revit – or any orthographic modeling tool – to replicate the real-world condition depicted by a Lidar Scan. In many cases it just is not possible or feasible.
My suggestion would be to host your Revit Doors/Windows/Openings to Revit Walls – not In-Place Modeled “flawed walls".
