Perspective mode simply doesn't work - help appreciated (look at the video)

Hello,

When I click on perspective mode, all hell breaks lose and the angle is extremely wide. Furthermore, the middle mouse button stops working and I can't orbit around my model. To orbit I have to manually grab the navigation bar and click on "orbit" button. I'm sure that this is not how Autodesk intended perspective mode to be used.

Why can't Autodesk implement a simple persepctive mode like Navisworks or even other software like Sketchup ?

Thanks for your help.

I'm using a Quadro M4000m.

I can run Enscape at max settings, I work on Lumion, etc.

I would be extremely suprised if the problem came from my GPU.

As I said before, a colleague tried on our VR computer which as an Nvidia Titan X and the problem is the same, when you start a brand new project and press "perspective" the view is always very weird and perspective doesn't work.

Talk to you later.

Can you film your screen doing the same thing ? Opening a new project, going into default 3D view, drawing 4 random walls, then going in perspective mode ?

That's my end  goal.  Gotten close, but not consistent.  So, I believe it's tangible.

Keep you informed.

I think I didn't explain properly what I said lol. I was wondering if you could film your screen doing the same actions, I would be curious to see the result. Your Revit should work fine.

Maybe it's the French - Europe version that is doing this ?

Can you share your test file or the French template file (along with a bottle of wine, baguette and fromage) ?

@ToanDN Attached is my revit file. It's a brand new file with the default architectural template. I drew a few walls. When I switch to perspective mode this is what I see :

We have 8 Revit users in our company and we all have the problem, our Revit behaves wrongly for all of us. It can't be a coincidence. I yet to have to ask to other companies we work with to see if they also have the same problem.

I will gladly send over french delicacies to anyone who can solve this problem.

Take a look here:

https://bimchapters.blogspot.com/2018/04/revit-2019-uncropped-perspective-and.html

Not sure if "cropped or uncropped" perspective view may have anything to do with the problem you are having?

"How the center of orbit is defined in a perspective view:

  • If you open an uncropped perspective and do an orbit using Shift + Wheel Button, you will go flying out of the space you are in. This is because the center of orbit is at the center of the model by default.
  • However, if you do a small scroll first, the object or area under your cursor becomes the center of orbit."

There must be some kind of weird geometry someplace. If I open your file, change the 3d to Perspective view, and then crop an uncrop the view, is "snaps back" and then looks fairly normal. It is way zoomed in , but you can zoom out and it works.

Also if I delete the 3d view and recreate a new default 3d view, I can switch that to perspective view and it works fine.

Maybe is the 3d view created in the template before geometry is there?  That might do it. if you make a default 3d view with no geometry in the file maybe it is setting up the camera really weird?  Can you post the template itself rather than a file using the template.  I think probably that is what is messed up.

If you delete the default 3d view and create a brand new one everything works normally.

P.S. I am awaiting my French delicacies.  Smiley Happy

Something is wrong with that particular 3d view.  I deleted it and created a brand new one from the 3D house button and all is fine.

Hello @ToanDN & @loboarch

So the question is : Why does the first default view have a problem, or a hidden geometry, or why is it set wrongly ?

Maybe this is some kind of bug that can be more or less easily fixed in a future patch ?

Honesty, I think this has to do with BREXIT.  Why don't we revisit this issue once you guys have got it together over there.

....off course  I'm being funny. What else?

Whatever, I believe it is a bug. I believe also that it has something to do with the fact that 2019 no longer uses crop boundaries. That's my guess anyways. I have been able to replicate, but not consistently. Bummer. .

It could be the 2019 French template was updated from 2018 and they just saved it without actually open the default 3d view to test.  The perspective mode was introduced in 2019 so it maybe screwy with the existing 3d view.

Yes it is a hick-up so just do what you do when you catch a hick-up, hick up and move on.  In other word, open the 2019 template, delete the 3d view, create a new one, save the template, and go on for a vacation.

The bottom line is does it affect any of your actual work?  If not, then simply open the template, delete the 3d view and

Hi @jsanders , Yes, Revit still have some work to do in the perspective field, it doesn't work as one would expect from any 3d program. I'm still waiting to see that moment when Autodesk take Revit to work normally on perspective mode.

Just let me let you know that I know more people personally having the same issue in the U.S. including me.

So in the mean time some things that help a little when working in perspective are:

1- To fix the camera field of view (when you get those wear angles), turn on and off crop view. This sometimes make it better.

2- To pan whit the middle mouse button when it get stuck, first open the full navigation wheel (shift + W) then use the middle mouse to pan with the navigation wheel open.

Hope this tips make your job a little easy.

Indeed, Revit still needs to update itself regarding working in 3D, but we have still managed to make it work to this day and forward.

I'm relieved (?) to know that some people in US also have the same problem. What a strange bug. Maybe Autodesk will patch it in the next 2019.3 update ?

Can you post the template file (.rte) you are using to create the projects where you see this issue?  I have tried recreating the problem, but am unable to. I would just like to see if I can re-create the problem using the template you are using. If there is a problem with the template specifically, right now is the time I can try to get it resolved, but that window of opportunity is closing soon.

I'm not using an .rte file, unless the default "architectural template" is an .rte file. When I start a project I just click on "architecture".
