Permanent deletion of objects from a model

Hello All,

Totally new to Revit and would like to know proper method for permanently deleting unwanted objects from a model. I have a 3D view setup so it displays everything I want deleted. I have been selecting objects, figured out how to unpin objects and have been deleting them. I have found and used the Purge command. I also deleted objects from schedules. Is the best way deleting from a 3D view and then purging? Or is there more.

Thanks, Ralph

Using delete does permanently remove that instance of a element. It doesn't matter what view you do that in, the instance you select will no longer exist. 3D elements are visible in many views but deleting them in any view works. 2D elements are only visible in that view but the same is true, delete it there and it is gone. Permanently is true until someone else decides to place an instance of that family/type again. An exception to this rule applies to rooms/spaces/areas - those must be deleted from a schedule view.

Purge Unused only displays elements or their types that are not being used and makes them available to purging.

If a door family is loaded in the project but no instance of it has been placed you can either delete it from the Project Browser (select the family > right click > Delete) or use Purge Unused. Take care to use the Check None button in the Purge Unused dialog. It isn't a good idea to purge everything because there are likely to be many elements that just haven't been used yet but you will eventually.

Purge Unused is permanent ... until someone loads the family again.
