-Are you "batch printing" many, many sheets at once?

-Depending on how complex the graphics are, and how much RAM your computer has, results will vary on successfully printing lots of sheets at once.

-This is not a "Revit" problem--same thing can happen in other programs when graphics demands exceed hardware limits.

Revit cannot print to PDF without 3rd party software. They have no control over it. I've printed to PDF with several different PDF printers without issues. So, again, not a Revit issue.

BTW, the complaint department is down the hall to the left.

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Print a set as separate PDF files and see where it gives the error.

I was trying to print as seperate files... with Adobe.  fatal error twice in a row.  Unfortunately, I quickly clicked "no" when promted to save a recovery file.... argh... thank goodness Revit saves periodically, only cost me 15 min. or so.  Each time it failed it had gotten to about page 6 or 7 of a 17 page set.. I do not know why they failed... third time it worked, with no changes made in my procedure.. "control P" didnt help..

If its the PDF program.. what's another one I should try?  My subscription to Adobe is up anyway....

- What are on page 6 or 7?

- Set the Adobe PDF printer to not open printed PDF automatically

- Try Bluebeam (paid), PDF Creator or PDF Architect (free with occasional pop-ups) and see what works

- Save before print

My drawings are really pretty simple... there are no imported CAD or Revit files.. , just drawings and some families... There is nothing on any of the pages that arent also somewhere else... I'm going to give bluebeam a shot...

-FYI....Revit does NOT autosave.

It may send a message prompting you to save.

-Also, per your comment--"it had gotten to about page 6 or 7"--this sounds like you are trying to print multiple pages 1-17., --batch printing. (i.e. not opening a single sheet, then printing/saving a single PDF of just that sheet.)

Depending on how much RAM your PC has, you may or may not be able to print 17 sheets in succession.

-Yes--Bluebeam is the industry standard in the AEC market with Revit. It works very well and has nice features for editing/extracting/combining/adding pages, markups, etc. It even has an available "Bluebeam Studio" function

where multiple users can collaborate and markup/comment on PDF drawings.

Thank you Cliff... I do know i need to upgrade my computer, but the fatal error thing happens on large projects, small projects, and sometimes not at all...

I have started a trial version of blue beam, and like it so far....very powerful.

Hi @georgehobel

There are several known pdf/text issues. Most have things to do with the display on the computer, graphics cards etc.

Here's a bunch of issue with pdf printing listed here: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles...

Regards,
