Part parameters disappear when splitting and merging

Hello to our dear experts here,

My question actully consist of two parts:

1)Why the parameters (Height and Lenght) disappear for parts of floors and roofs? and how can I get them at least in a schedule?

2)Why the parameters (Area and Thickness) disappear when merging two parts? Is there a possibility to merge two parts with an angle so it will have two different area values for the sides of the merged part?! Is there a possibility to merge two parts with different thickness?!

Thanks in Advance.

Don't you  know the length of each panel?  It's a standardized panel, isn't it?  Like 4x8?

Edit Division and Edit Sketch to remove Sketch Line will return the Thickness Parameter.

...Select merged panel => Edit Merged => tab select panel=>Edit Division=>Edit Sketch=>delete line between merged panels=>close out and select merged panel and note its Thickness Parameter.

Don't merge.  Exclude one panel from the parts, turn on grips for one panel and stretch it to fill the hole.

I have to admit it, that is a smart solution. However I want a sustainable, consistent and automatic solutions because the file that I uploaded is only an example of a huge project that contains more than hundreds merged and unmerged parts. I splitted them and merged them according to predefined configurations  automatically. And I want to solve this issue without disturbing my current model. A solution that contains changing settings or turning around it -somehow- to show the values in schedules.

Your question was “Why the parameters (Area and Thickness) disappear when merging two parts?” If you follow the steps I outlined for you in my post above you will have Area and Thickness Parameters.  See this Link for further explanation:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2019/EN...

Regarding why the Area and Thickness Parameters are not available, I suspect it is related to the nesting that is needed to support recursive editing.  Instead of Merging Divided Parts – Edit Division.

Regarding your question about why Height is not available for floor and roofs – it is because it is only available if the part is derived from a wall layer.  See the Link for further information about Part Instance Properties:

Thank you sir for your kind replay. However we are splitting and merging according to  predefined configurations using basically Demo scripts. And using Merge is always easier to define according to dimensions (Merge if dimensions of the merged part does not exceed the maximum dimensions). So I can not use your method for every division planning. (Please try your method on the merged part in the floor element).

All my questions are basically about parts. When Autodesk programmed Parts settings in Revit, Was it intended to work like this or did they planned for another way of showing the disappearing informations (properties). Is it still under development or is it intended to work like this!!!

By the way, when someone shows the shape handles and change the thickness of a part. The thickness parameter does not change. However the Area changed!!! Is this a glitch or is it serving another purpose?!

If the parts have different thicknesses then which one should Revit report?  If you are using Dynamo for this task then go a step further and create a script to write the thickness BEFORE merging them to a different parameter, then use that parameter in your schedule.

I'm with you, @Anonymous. It's not a perfect tool.  I get what you are doing and it seems perfectly logical to me.  Revit should be able to keep up.  So I feel your frustration. Until they fix it though, we deal with it --illogically.  Frustrierte Smiley

...you ought to post it as an Idea. I'll sponsor it.

This should be simple to add to your Dynamo script.
