Hello,
I am trying to create a parametric roof in revit using the mass-in place tool and I am getting an error in the file. It say that Mass contains only mesh geometry, which can't be used to compute mass floors, volume or surface area.
I am confused as to why I am getting this error and why my surface shows up in the elevation views but not the 3d view. I have tried VG and making sure the mass box and mass floors boxes are check. I have also tried clicking on the mass floors button on the Massing and Site panel.
Thanks

It only means you created a surface from the mass and not a solid form. After drawing your shape select it and the Create Form Tab will appear. Select the Solid Form to have a viable mass to create your roof.
When you create form from a closed profile it gives you the choices to create a surface or a solid. There is nothing wrong with choosing a surface and it is all you need to create a roof by face. A solid is only needed if you need to create mass floors by intersecting the Levels through the volume.
Share the file so we can see why the mass doesn't show in 3d.
Here is my file I thought it was posted with my original post
1. For 3D view visibility : Switch on " Mass " in Model Categories.
2. You have created inplace mass for Roof, it is in Mass Category. if you want to keep the elements and change it in roof
then probably just Edit the mass, and change the category to " Roof"
3. You have created "inplace " model in " mass category.. which is totally different from " Creating Mass using " Massing & Site" tab, and using the surface of those mass to create any 3d elements like wall, floors, roof..
Cheer!
Thank you my surface shows up in my model now.
But as to what you are saying, I used the in-place mass tool so it just creates a conceptual mass versus what you are saying by using the model by face tab and creating an actual 3D element. So if I use the Model by Face tab I would create an actual 3D Surface element? Do I have that Right?
Thanks for all the help
