Parametric material tags showing material marks in elevation and question marks in plan

Hi all,

We are running into an issue where our material tags are tagging casework/furniture/countertops, etc in elevation properly but display a question mark in plan view. In plan, it will still tag and show the material marks for the floors, but not any other families. We've tried changing view templates, scales, and the objects have materials assigned to them. We are using the material tag from the autodesk library, with the change that we've edited it to display the mark rather than the material description. There are no design options in this model, and they are all in the same workset. We've also turned off any graphic overrides due to phasing. Any help would be much appreciated! Attached are some screenshots to demonstrate the issue.

Such family would be using a detail item to display in plan views instead of the component's geometry. Detail items are 2D symbolic representation which has no material. Example: Referring to the OOTB Desk,

  • in Plan/RCP they have unchecked the visibility of the Desk Top and placed a Detail item in Plan view => when you tag you get a ? / Blank value
  • in Elevations/Sections/3D the 3D geometry is visibile => the Tag returns the Material assigned to the extrusions

If you wish to tag material in plan view Check visibility in Plan/RCP

To combine the perks of both worlds 2D and 3D, one would use nested components for each (Top/Base/Detail Item)
