Parameters on Nested Families

How do I get an object in a nested family to move in the host family. I have a family of a duct support and I'm trying to make it parametric. It has a parameter in the nest family to move the brackets up and down that works. The parameter in the host family moves the crossbar (not part of the nested family, but it won't move the brackets (part of the nested family). I have the strut height and the duct width parameters working but i can't get the cross bar height one to work because the brackets don't move with the crossbar. The brackets are part of a nested family with the vertical assembly supports. What do I do?

Thanks.

Best thing to do is upload your family so we can have a look what you have sofar.

I actually figured it out. I had to associate the parameter from the nested family to the host family.

Thanks for your help though
