Parameterizing handrail of a railing family.

Ok I've got a problem that I think will be a good challenge for yall.

I need to make a railing family where, when loaded into the project I am able to modify the dimensions of the profile of the handrail to make it larger or smaller depending on what dimensions are entered.

This has completely stumped me but I know someone out there will be able to figure it out.

Thanks!!

Edit:
I have already made custom profiles for the top and hand rails.

I have also created parameters for the handrail that links to the height and width dimension that I need to change. The issue is when I create the rail in my project and select the custom top and handrail profiles the parameters do not show up in the property box of the rail.

All of the rails are based on a Profile, load a custom parametric profile family, then you can adjust that profile values to adjust the rail

You can create and use Profile TYPES of different sizes - all parametrically controlled.  Is that what you are trying to do?

Would you be able to list the steps in more detail?

So far I've made the custom profiles I need for the top rail, and the handrail. I have also made the dimension parameters for the handrail. The trouble I'm having is when I create the rail in my project and loan in my custom profiles, the parameters I made for the handrail don't show up.

Rails are type based so you need to create different profile types from the profile family, then assign each to a rail type.

Change the Parameters in the Profile Family to TYPE Parameters (not INSTANCE).

Not quite, Ive already made the custom profiles for both my top rail and bottom rail.

I have already added a shared parameter that links to the height and width dimension of the handrail profile I made; the issue I'm having is when I load it into my project create the rail and select my custom profiles the parameters I added don't show up in the properties box.

Change the Profile Usage.

1. Shared parameters are not necessary.

2. Create different profile types, set each type with different dimension parameters values.  This can be done in teh profile family or in the project.

3. Create different rail types.  Assign a profile type to each rail type.

4. Assign rail types to railing types.
