Parameter not visible

Not applicable

Good morning. I have this door family and I want to edit this in order to create a new one with different shape (Arc). I need the "Width" parameter to be visible. I noticed that "Width" parameter is not visible in any of the doors families that I have already opened. and this parameter has been already created. I was trying to create it again but it shows like a duplicate one. Please advice. Thank you

The "Width" parameter in in Plan View.  Just delete it there and redraw the dimension in Elevation and label it to the "Width" parameter.

Width is on Plan view. It's built in and you cannot delete it. Just edit/re-snap it to different ref planes on plan view if you need to.

If you want to edit the parameter on an elevation, go to the plan view, select the Width dimension and change it to None, then go back to the elevation and add a dim and associate it with Width.

Can't delete the "Width" labeled Dimension?  You sure about that?

...yep; just confirmed. My templates must be broken because I can delete the "Width" dimension. Been doing it all day long, and twice on Sundays for years.  Never realized it shouldn't be possible.  Learn something new everyday.  Smiley Wink

I just tried it with the OOTB Door template family and the dimension deleted.  The parameter of course cannot be deleted.  Then I opened the OOTB Door-Single-Flush-Panel_Double-Acting family and sure enough the dimension cannot be deleted.  Wonder if it is because the family has just been upgraded over and over every year?

Try deleting the "Width" Labeled Dimension this one @Anonymous

...Nevermind. For some reason, I can't attach an rft. Just put a  "Width" Labeled Dimension in a new Door Family, save it and rename it to an "rft" extension. When you open a new family using that rft, the "Width" dimension cannot be deleted.

That was it, just in a different view?   FYI for future missing dimensions, some families have the dimensions turned off in visibility graphics.. something to look for as you get around to looking at how other families are built.

Thank you for your answer. I tried to delete labeled dimension and I was unable to. I labeled that dimenson to "None", made a new dimension in elevation to label "Width" and I got this message "Labeling this dimension would overconstrain the sketch."

Please advice. thank you

Select that None dimension on plan, click on the padlock symbol to unlock it.

You can zip the RFT and attach.  I will delete the dimension and send it back to you.

Huh???  I though you said that you couldn't delete the dimension.  I don't need it returned to me with the dimension deleted. I already have one I can delete the dimension from.  The OOTB Door Family.

That was an advice for normal users.  Users who like to mucking around should be able to delete it.  Here is the 2018 OOTB family with the Width dimension deleted.
