Overhead Beam - problem with visibility when Cut by Reference plane

Hello,

I am modeling concrete beams.

I need to show them in floor plan "as overhead" so I add "invisible model line" into beam family that cut my cut plane. Thanks to this aproach I can see beam in my floor plan.

Then I set up filter to corectly show my beam as I need (dashdot line) and everything looks perfect until I cut my beam by reference plane.

When I cut beam at the end of the beam (or at the start - it doesn´t matter) it stops showing in my floor plan.

I am attaching short video to better represent my problem.

Could anybody help me with this visibility please ?

Thank you in advance.

Have you tried adjusting your view range higher after cutting the beam?

If this works, please mark it as an accepted solution. This helps make the forum a better place.

Hello,

yes I did but it doesn´t work.

It seems like when I cut geometry of the beam it can´t be showed cause there is no whole geometry or what.

I hoped somebody would know some hack to get solution I need :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:

Not only when you cut it with a reference plane but also when two beams join. Even unjoining them doesn't bring them back.

Guess it's back to linework, we also have to always show overhead beams and I do it by creating two temporary levels (and plan views for them because you can't use them for underlay without plan views) that are below and above beams.

Set those levels for underlay, hide everything but structural framing, use linework tool to show them in dashed lines, but make sure to have "select by face" enabled so you can click in the middle of the beam and get the whole beam with one click.

Sounds convoluted but it works pretty fast and easy.

You are right. I recognized that connection of beams do the same issue as cutting by reference plane.

Thank you for your approach. It seems I´ll have to do the same like you.

I appreciate it :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:

But...give a little bit more time to someone who might bring better solution.

Please may I have a question for you ?
What if I use "plan region" in my floor plan ?

I am modelling parking gagare and my floor plan is like "half floor". It means I use ramps and half of my floor plan is on level 0,000 and another half in the level +1,500. But I need to show it together so I created plan region and edit view range to see my floor plan correctly due to different heights as I mentioned above.

Then, when I try to underlay to show my beams, this underlay does not apply to this region where I use plan region.

How can I proceed in this situation please ?

Nest a shared generic model family in the beam and get rid of the model line.  Generic model category can be visible when they are above the cut plane.

Thank you for your reply.

I just tried to nest generic model family (just simple shape add to my beam) - also check "shared" however it won´t appear in my floor plan.

You are right, when I create simple generic model in my project I can see it even if it is above my cut plane but when I nested it into my beam family it doesn´t work.

I can only see my generic model shape but not the whole beam.

Where did I make a mistake please ?

I'm pretty sure this depends on the view range you have set up for plan region. I tested it, and it works in my simple example, even with plan region.

Or maybe you could make the higher level your "primary" one, use that one for floor plans and extend view range down to see the lower floor.

Thank you for your time and for your advices.

I am going to try to figure it out :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:
