We have this problem for a long time now. We are using Over head door family from the manufacturer. The door in the family editor looks pretty good as in picture below:
But When I insert it in the wall in project it looks like this:
It shows all the tracks above as if it doesn't cut them. Does anybody have a solution for this?
I don't want to override the lines with 'Linework' command as each door has 30 or more lines that needs to be hidden.
The family in 3d looks like this:
I noticed that the track is a nested family. Might that be the problem?
Why door looks ok in family but different in project?
Thanks in advance
First thing:
Check the floor level view range in your project. Where is the cut plane?
Second thing:
Check the view range of the family reference level. Open the family, select the ref.level and view range. The cut plane should be set to "associated level" and no need to set "top" to "level above".
Third thing:
Check floor view underlay. The underlay should be set to "none".

Get into the family where you can see the highlighted geometry
Select the geometry. In its Properties -
This will tell the geometry not to show up in plan.
No underlay
Checked cut plane. They are all at 4' set to associate level.
I am attaching the family and revit file with the door if it helps.
Another thing that you can do - set the display level of the offending geometry to Medium in the dialog box from my screenshot, and set the RCP detail level as Medium. That way it won't show up in plan views, but will still be visible in RCP.
Is there a way to override detail level of door in one view without changing detail level of view?
I can't set the view to medium or coarse as everything else in my drawing will change.
I don't want to set the door detail level to medium because the track should be visible in RCP.
Edit: on another note, the tracks continue down to floor level and they should be visible.
Leave the family the way it is - in floor plan, go over the offending geometry with the linework tool and hidden lines.
Thanks,
That's solves most of the problem for now with one disadvantage. The Track part in plan is not visible. In other word the door looks like hovering in the air. It's not crucial though. My final goal was to show the over head tracks as dashed lines but I guess I have to add those lines to family.
But out of curiosity what makes this door look different in project than family?

I did try that. because of the door geometry each door has around 40 lines which should be turned to hidden or invisible and I have so many of these doors
Create a shared text parameter. Add it to the offending geometry families and the project. In the project, associate that parameter to Doors. Create a filter to filter Doors by that parameter and display as hidden.

I'm really hoping to see the answer. I don't understand either...

Thanks,
Haven't tried this yet. But doesn't this make the whole door including its panel hidden?
Also, way too complicated. in the long run with other projects and adding other co workers to the equation, it is very hard to maintain.
Not really. The filters and shared parameter would need to be added to your template for future re-use. I think that dealing with a malfunctioning family is much more complicated.
Another solution (which you really really are not going to like) is to re-create the family. Simplify, control the geometry, parameters, and display the way you want them to be - that's what I am in the process of doing as I type, because I have this general distrust of manufacturer families and the ones I am working on did NOT do what the designers wanted. Short term inconvenience, long term convenience. And creating doors doesn't really take that much time. Look at it this way.
Change the nested families to Windows Category because the category allows Visible when Cut on Plan/RCP for model elements.
My test file below:
I am trying this. But I get a 'circular chain of reference' error. It might be because of the complex family.
Going to try to make it work.
Thanks
