Optimal Spacing Parameters

I have a client who has given me the outline of a structure as well as how far each column needs to be from the wall as well as from each other. Does anybody know how to set up a family so I can find the exact placement of where these columns need to be. I have thought about an array but the columns are not in line.

Any help is greatly appreciated.!

In the family - place reference planes which define origin intersecting where you would want the insertion point to be - in this case, the position would be at the required distance from the wall / other column. If there are multiple distances, then apply an instance length parameter to that distance. The intersection would be the point of insertion. So you could click on the wall / column, and place the other column at the required distance.

Are you trying to find out the layout that needs the least number of columns and meets the given criteria?

 Toandn;

Yes, that is exactly what I am trying to do. Place the minimum number of columns required for the space.

I think that you can obtain a control of the column position if you use Global Parameters for this....something like in my following rough screencast:

Hi dmaxwellE7VF9

Looks like you’re new to the Forum. Welcome. Lots of awesome Revit users herein.

Seems you have two posts on the same topic, with the other post here.

Looks like you’ve got a lot of good responses between the two posts.  I replied in the other thread.
