Optical illusion on a facade

Hello,

I wanted to ask if its possible to add decal or a picture on a individual panels. It's technicaly an optical illusion, when you look from a specific point you can see a picture?

Yes, you can place decals. They might work a bit differently from other software but it is possible

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

A Decal that is only visible from a specific Angle?

Nope, I do not believe that is possible. When you place the Decal, it is either you see it or you don't (in Realistic mode or Renders)... Revit doesn't do magic tricks and illusions :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:

If you do not want to see is in certain camera angles you will have to improvise

  • Hide it in view (Select >> Right Click >> Hide Element)
  • Place it on a Workset closed in view
  • Place it and its host in a design option (GIF 1 below)
  • Place it on a Subcategory and switch off/on at certain angles (GIF 2 Below)

If you are talking about anamorphic projections (See wikipedia Anamorphosis), I have done this in the past but in workflow including 3DS Max and Sketchup. As this was before FormIt, the workflow could be adapted to work with Revit materials and allow you to illustrate the anamorphosis within Revit Realistic views.

If this is what you are trying to do, here's the basic outline:

  1. In 3DS Max:
    1. create a custom light with the un-projected image and orient it towards the surfaces involved just as you would a physical projector in a space;
    2. bake the materials on the objects receiving the image;
    3. export to Formit;
  2.  In Formit:
    1. adjust the material names;
    2. adjust the position of the material maps if required;
  3. export to Revit;
    1. In Revit, there shouldn't be much to do.

Here's an example:

In model 3DS Max projection:

Here's a rough version of a test on a rectangular prism. Each side would be saved to a different material.

And the floor had this material

Word of the Day: "Anamorphosis".

Thanks @lucdoucet_msdl

Funny; spell check doesn't even know this one.

Pretty simple construct.  Image is on a thin Basic Wall Type behind a Curtain Wall Type. The Curtain Wall has angled Interior Vertical Mullions and all Empty System Panels.

Have fun!

but it won't work if it's glass behind?

No it will not...Again Decals on their own simply applied to a surface do not behave the way you described. It is either you see them or you don't. (Refer back to message# 3)

Any optical illusions you want to create, you will have to improvise and do them using other means (hoping that such means suits/fits the design intent) or other software

I don't understand your question, but what I showed you above is not a Decal. The colorful Koi image is coming from Wall Material's Appearance Image.   If you want that Wall/Image to be glass-like when Rendered, then use the Image for Transparency and play with those settings.
