Opening wall not working anymore

hello I am trying to create an opening in a wall and them model in place a window. However when I click on the wall and then on the vertical wall opening no opening is created. 

how can I create this? It has worked previously.

there is no vertical wall opening. Vertical obviously doesnt work on walls, try just wall instead:

If you are going to create the window as a model in place you could include the opening for the window while creating the model in place window as there is an opening tool on the create tab.

Otherwise like @se.ha said use the wall opening tool not the vertical tool (that is for floors, ceilings and roofs)

In-Place Modeling a Window? You can't use those Opening Tools. Use a Void Extrusion in the In-Place and Cut the Wall before exiting In-Place Modeling Mode,
