Opening simple Revit files can take 2+ hours and fail

Ok, here is the backstory...

We are upgrading domain and moving data from legacy server to new high end Dell server with SSDs.  All servers are in same environment, switches and location.

Old server is fine for opening and working on any Revit file.

Data was moved to new server to test.  Now Revit files can take up to 2+ hours to open.  Other files, AutoCAD, Rhino, Sketchup and others open completely fine on the new server.

The scenerio we are seeing is this.

The Revit test performed on the new server had the following results:

  • Opening Revit files normally causes Revit to hang. After 2+ hours, the progress bar never moved beyond approximately 50%. Several models were tested, all more than once, with the same result.

Two workarounds were tested:

  1. Copying files to desktop, select ‘detach from central’ while opening local file, save detached model to server (reliably successful)
  2. Select ‘detach from central’ while opening file on server, save detached model back to server (50-50 success rate)

These workarounds would have to be performed on every Revit model.

Any help on getting this resolved would be great.

Thanks

Drives are not encrypted.

Data moved from R2 to 2016 OS.

Go into your Revit.ini file and remove all saved locations...

Also if you have any libraries that are moving to the new server you want to update that information as well.

Another possibility is the server isn't connected to a gigabit network.

It's on a gigabit switch/network.

Where would I find the revit.ini file?

Found the revit.ini and removed and UNC paths that pointed towards old location/files.

Still nothing, same thing...
