It seems the opening/Shaft tools are rather limited?

Create inplace model..instead of shaft.

Or use a two-level generic family with a parametric void sweep blend to control the sizes of the top and bottom profile. Load in project and set the base at the lowest level, the top at the highest level, and use cut geometry to cut all the floors in between.
