Open Family editor with default view set to "Floor Plan"

Hello all,

I am creating 2d families using the Metric-Detail item template and nesting it to the 3d families. Each and every time I open the family to edit, it takes me to 3d view in which I couldn't see the 2d elements because its a detail component. Is there anyway that I could to set the default view to "Floor plan" so everytime when i click the "Edit family", I could see the thumbnail of the family in my project. I have tried resaving the family and made the source for the thumbnail to "Floor Plan:" but it doesn't help me in anyway.

Thank you.

Revit remembers the last view that was opened prior to saving.  If you save your family with the "floor plan" view as the last view, it remembers and then when you open again, it goes directly to that view.  The thumbnail view within the Recent Files window is controlled by the Save As command Options feature.

Thanks for your quick reply. I tried all said above it works for editing the family, but for my another problem it didn't work. May be I misguided by not being specific in my words. What I meant by Thumbnail preview, is the one that is shown in the properties dialog box like this.

In the above picture it shows the 3d view of the family, is it possible for the same to show the plan view instead. Even if I save and leave the file with the plan view opened it doesn't show the plan view in the thumbnail of the family in the properties box of the project.

Is this a default revit setup? Could it be tweaked according to our wish?

Close every view except for the floor plan view and save the family.  Next time you open it should open the last view before saved.

Most important is to tick " Regenerate if view/sheet is not up-to-date"

This forces revit to keep that thumbnail preview...

otherwise it wont work consistently....

Cheers!
