Opaque text from linked file blocks devices - workaround?

Hi, I have a pretty basic issue and hoping someone has a good ideas for a workaround.

I'd like to show an architectural view on my plan, but everything looks fine except his annotation text sits above my device, which makes sense since we are basically combining the models together by the process of linking.

See screen shot. I do not want to turn off all the linked text because some of it is useful. My plan B is to recreate the items I care about and turn it all off, but if there is a way to get it this underneath my devices that would be a faster and more useful solution. In practice I do not control the linked in model so solutions requiring changes to the incoming file are less desirable. One obvious solution is to ask my architecture friend to set his text to transparent but he will have set it to opaque for a reason on his side. RVT Link Display Settings does not offer a transparency override for TEXT NOTES

Am I missing a useful setting?

Test files attached. In VG, revit links, display settings, linked view is set to "Floor Plan Level 1"

Thanks

Change the link to Underlay from VG>RVT Links tab.

To make it transparent, @ToanDN

I've posted about this before: how to change opaque background text in a link, to a transparent background the the host. I'd love to know how to do this as well.

ToanDN, it is set to underlay.

Gotcha.  I guess you need to open the link and change the text types to transparent.

Hi Viveka,

I haven't seen a decent solution or workaround, so yes, more help would be super, thanks.

 Hi @MuirEng

It looks like the option would be to change your background to 'transparent' in your text type properties Screencast HERE

or you can try decreasing the Leader/Border offset to reveal your devices.

The other option is to control the linked model's visibility as suggested by @ToanDN

@Viveka_CD

I had corrected myself and suggested that @MuirEng needed to do the same as your screencast is showing.

hey guys, in my original post I tried (but clearly failed) to explain that I know how to edit the linked file and edit the text properties, but that this was not a useful solution. As I wrote, I do not control these files. We collaborate live and the architect is constantly updating his file, so any changes like this will be lost almost as soon as we make them.

Globally changing the linked models' visibility is not good for us either. We want things like walls, floors, ceiling showing at 100% density.

Our current workaround stands. Replicate any text notes we care about and then turn off all architectural text notes. Unless anyone has a better idea.

In closing, I understand why Revit is doing this, and I'm sure there are cases where this behavior would be desired.

Thanks for the support.

Hi @MuirEng

Are you looking for an additional parameter for the text control? I'm not clear on what action item you might want, can you please specify - for eg., do you want a visible order or a transparency control for the device or the text type properties?

This can be considered as a feature request once we hear back from you.

I guess I'd like to see a control under VG settings for the linked file, for text notes that would allow me to control the transparency level of linked in text notes, in the same way such control is offered for other elements.

thanks
