OOTB doors material parameters madness

Hello, please see card.

I opened a fresh project and a family from Autodesk library, all version 2020.

There are 4 parameters for material and finishes, two Type and two Instance.

Two use the same name, "Frame Material".

Despite being family parameters, the two instance parameters actually show in a schedule.

The two Type parameters are material data-type, which is nice because they are related to what the family looks in the drawings and renderings, but they do not show in the schedule (because family parameters?), so they are useless.

Now we have to create new shared parameters: two Materials Type parameters for the panel and frame materials, and two Instances Text parameters, for the panel finish and frame finish.

The only parameter we could "recycle" is "Finish", as Frame Finish, however, we cannot rename it, because the parameter does not exist in the family editor, and so, it is useless as well.

I guess my questions are:

1. if there are family parameters that do schedule, why cannot all appear on schedules? "Door Material" and "Frame Material" for example?

2. Why is there a duplicated "Frame Material" parameter in the OOTB door family?

3. Why are the instance parameters not showing in the family editor? I mean, custom instance parameters do show ("Default"), right?

thank you

The Frame Material that says 'wood' is a built-in (system) Text parameter so it can be schedule. The Frame material and Door Material parameters that show the true materials are not system or shared parameters so they cannot be added to the schedule. You can simply fix it by edit the family, edit those parameters and change them from Family to Shared parameters (you may need to create new shared material parameters if you don't already have some) . Then you can schedule them.

Okay, so, for the love of Jesus, why wouldn't they make them *all* system, built-in parameters?

After 20 versions, should we not expect Autodesk to know that we need to schedule door and frame materials?

Thanks...

Because some users do not need them. And such users would complain why Autodesk provided unnecessary parameters that cannot be deleted.

The ootb families are meant to be a guide, not the ruler.
