Old Project Parameter connected to Family

See attached image.

With our last revit template we added a "Waste Factor" project parameter so that in the schedules and materials we could add a number....

With our new template we removed this parameter as we no longer needed it and it seems that the Project parameter has somehow linked into the individual families.

When you start a new project there is no "Waste Factor" project parameter, then you insert a door into the project and the "Waste Factor" parameter appears under other as an instance and appears in the Project parameters list. You open the door family and the Waste Factor parameter doesnt exist anywhere.

The more categories of families you insert into the new project the more Waste Factor project parameters appear in the list we've had over 10 appear once a project is done. How do we remove this parameter from a project when it doesnt exist? At least not in a way we can find.

Not sure what the answer is. But here some troubleshooting tips.

Does it only happen with a single family or with many different ones?

-What happens when you start a new project with a standard Autodesk template and then load the door family?

-Have you tried purging when editing the door family (and the nested families) before loading it into a clean template?

It was happening when I used any template, also it was happening with multiple families. Doors, casework, plumbing... pretty much everything.

It was also a shared parameter so I ended up deleting it from the shared parameter file itself and now it seems to have corrected even though before it was not being used in the family. So far this seems to have fixed the issue.

Did you add it to the Materials category under the previous project?

It was added under the materials category in the previous template we used. When we switch templates we also updated all our families (we are a smaller operation so there aren't that many of them) and removed the waste factor from everything where we could see it.

That was what I guessed. When you added it to the materials category in a project, it can carry over to families when you edit the families, then carry over to new projects when you load the families to the new projects.

Alright so note to self don't add extra parameters to materials.... Now how does a person fix this problem...I thought I had fixed it but now I added in some cabinetry and there are 6 new Waste Factor Project parameters Frustrierte Smiley
