Off Center Circle

We need to move large boxes around an existing factory. 65' long x 16 wide x 12' high wooden mods. These mods will be moved by an air system so the pivot points can be anywhere. When swinging these mods around we need to make sure they don't hit any columns or get stuck. Now you have the background so here is my question. I need to show the route of these mods. Showing the swing and lateral movements. Is there a way to draw a 65'-0" diameter circle with the axis point not in the center? I am guessing Dynamo might be able to do this.

Thank you.

Well, if Dynamo can do it, then it can be done without Dynamo.

Can you post a fuller description of the construct and how it's supposed to operate?   Pictures would be helpful.

No. That is the very definition of a circle. I think what you want to ask is, "Is there a way to make a family that will pivot a circle around a point other than the center?"

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

take a look at this AU class - it might help in making a family that can do what you need without dynamo. depending on which version of revit you have, i wonder if there is a way to use the path of travel tool somehow?

Attached is what we are trying to accomplish. Good idea of creating a family to accomplish this.

Let me throw this idea out there for your consideration.  Hope it’s understandable.

Instead of an “off center circle” like you were thinking, how about an elliptical center/path that the component follows?  Open an inspect the attached single Adaptive Point family (“Try This Family in Project.rfa “).

The Adaptive Point is the center of the Ellipse and Placement Origin of the Family in the Project. Major Radius and Minor Radius is Parametrically controlled.

The “Normalized Curve Parameter” moves the component along the elliptical path from 0.00 to 1.00, which equals one full revolution. For example, “Normalized Curve Parameter” values in increments of 0.25 moves the component to each quadrant of the ellipse (e.g. 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.00).  You can also set it up to move the Component a specific Chord Length or Segment Length by changing the “Measurement Type” Property of the Reference Point I’ve name “Junior”.  “Junior” is the Ref. Point that hosts and drives the nested “Desk-Adaptive.rfa” component along the elliptical path.   You can also manually drag “Junior” to move the Component around the Circumference.

Let me know if you have any questions.
