Hi All.
I have a question regarding dimensioning objects to "lock" them into place in Revit 2019. What I am trying to accomplish is several porch column objects need to be 3" from the side edge of the concrete porch slab and 1/4" from the front edge of the porch slab. I setup the columns roughly into place then linear dim. them. I set the 1/4" dim. first then the 3" dimension. Of course it is not exactly 3" so I select column to enable dim. editing and change the dim to 3" but when I do the 1/4" dimension is changed one was by a few inches but the other side column moved 4' 3" away? If I try and lock the first dim. then the other dim cannot be changed when object is selected.
I have tried this several times and the results are always different so I am not sure why this is happening.
I have searched everywhere for ideas but nothing I read is helping the issue.
Any thoughts and suggestions welcomed!
Cheers!

There are no constraints for the column object it is really just a simple 8"x8"x7' object. As I stated when I try to constrain 1 dim. the other dim. cannot be changed which is odd to me because what if I really wanted to constrain in one direction?
I know what you are talking about now. Open the Family and change its Category. For instance, from Column to Generic Model. Reload and test. Different behavior. No explanation why though.
