Non-Parallel Section

I want to create sections parallel to beams that are at random angles (in plan).

How do you get the section to align parallel to it?

See attached screen shot with several beams at various angles.

Rotate the Marker.

Yes, but how do you get it to be exactly parallel to the beam?

Sections won't allow you to align or even snap to it, so you have to find out the angle and rotate the section by typing in the desired rotation angle.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Use Ref. Planes that are 90 degrees to each other to assist you.

Just one more thing to add to the long list of simple things Revit won't do!

Obtain the angle of the angled element;

  1. Draw a Detail line touching the element at either 0°,90°,180°,270° point from the element. This will give you a baseline for your angle dimension
  2. Use your dimension (DI) command, and switch to angular dimension. Click the angled element and then the detail line drawn in step #1. This will give you to rotation angle needed for your section/elevation.
  3. Click your elevation/section and use the rotate (RO) command. Enter in the value obtained above and your section/elevation will be perfectly parallel to the point at which you dimensioned.

Depends on what you are aligning to. My markers automatically align in most instances just fine.

That's a lot of f*****g around when it should be able to snap to the object you want it parallel to.

Revit making things difficult since 19??!

I think your "U", "C", "K", "I" and "N" keys are broken, dude. Probably cookie crumbs in the keyboard.  he, he.

Alternatively, you could draw a new section and Revit will highlight the gridline when you are parallel.

Yeah, sections will not snap to beams, walls, yep, beam nope.  Smiley (traurig)

Oh, did I say "most instances" instead of "wall instances"? My bad. Must be the cookie crumbs in my keyboard.  Smiley (zwinkernd)

use the pick line tool for a reference plane....use a framing elevation which will align automatically or the section will snap to the reference plane.

Draw a reference plane parallel to the beam and you can draw a section snapping to the ref plane. Repeat for other beams.

Same thing I suggested 7 hours earlier :Gesicht_mit_Zunge:

Match Rotation plugin is your friend . I use it to match section boxes as well - super useful.
