No Wall Join Options

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am using Revit 2017.

Attached I have 2 Images of what is going on.

I cannot figure out why Revit won't let me use any type of wall join settings in this area.  I obviously don't want to cut a hole in my wall where my new wall is coming in.  I just want the new wall butt up against the existing wall.

I try using the "Wall Joins" Command under your Modify tab, Geometry panel. But when I try to select this connection, it won't select it.

Then I tried another option of selecting the wall so I can get the disallow/allow join command.  But when I select the wall this command doesn't appear.

Any ideas on how I can get this to work like it's supposed to?! Without having to cheat and just put a filled black region over it?

Thanks

Are all of the walls in question of the same phase?

This was the first thing came to mind.  There most likely a demolished wall at the intersection.

Hi, Kate!

Can you give us a piece of the model?

Just make a group of a few walls and floors an save that.

Select some walls and floors an click Make Group
Go to the Revit menu, Save As, Library and select Group.

Kind regards,
Dmitriy Semko.

Hi Kate,

Here are a few suggestions:

1: try using the core and layers priority levels.

For example, your external wall could be core priority one and your interior wall core priority two. That way you would keep the join without having to use more complicated options.

2. If not suitable, which might well be the case, check that tey are "compatible", so check their phases, and that you haven't edited the wall profile (that can interfere with joints and disallow the use of the modify join tool)

3. move the end of your wall inside your building. it will not join anymore and you will be able to right-click the end of the wall and select disallow join. For more detailed interface between the two walls, you can then adjust the overlay of the two and then add the two elements in the modify tab.

Hope this helps,

solutions 2 and 3 should work!

Cheers,

François

No, Only 1 wall is in the new construction phase, the rest are on a previous phase

Can you change the Phase Filter to Show All for this view and snap a screenshot of it?

Kate,

Did you ever solve this? I ran into a perhaps similar situation where I could not get walls to join.

What I found was:

If the finish or core are different materials, they will join.

But . . . under the Edit Type for that wall - under Graphics - if you have a Coarse Scale Fill Pattern that is different in the two wall types, the walls will not join - Period.

This is even if the coarse scale fill pattern is not visible, like say the walls are existing and you don't have the fill show on existing walls. The walls will still not join.

Say you have CMU walls and wood framed walls. If the coarse scale fill pattern is the same, they will join. If the CMU is crosshatch and the wood framed walls are solid gray fill, they will not join. Even if the walls are in the same phase.
