No model in place option

I have Revit LT 2016, and on the component tab there is no model in place option. All I can do is place a component from a family. Does any one know why?

Thanks,

Revit LT does not allow in-place modeling except for a wall element.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. I am just doing a trial for now, but knowing this I don't want to purchase. Do you know if I choose another version other than LT that does not allow model in place?
Thanks for your help,

The non LT version of Revit has modeling in place for all categories. LT does have the full family editor so if you can model the family "out of context" you can get most things done. There are a few instances where modeling in place is about the only way to accomplish something.

If it is a serious drawback and a gigantic pita for you then you may want the full blown Revit?  LT also does not have view filters, which may or may not be another drawback for you.

IDK about view filters and if they would be helpful - so far haven't found a need.  But I need to make custom countertops and all directions for this refer to model in place --- I cannot figure out how to do it in a another way - someone else answered about this but I am struggling.  And why do components like cooktops not sit at countertop height and the symbol not let you adjust it's height in attributes/properties?  Arrgghh -- I am wasting so much time.

You asked the same question:

Did the answer not fulfill your need?  If not, can you clarify what does't work so that we can go to further details.

To make custom counter tops with out being able to model in place what I have been doing is noting the layout dimensions of the kitchen or bath then create a counter top as a family that you can place in the project. It is much slower than being able to model in place but gets the job done. As far as the cooktop issue without seeing the issue first hand I could not tell you what I would do. It sounds like there is an issue with the family. Possibly open the family and see if you can fix the issue. Just remember in case you mess up the family don't save before you try to load it in the project and "ctrl Z" is your friend. Then open the family and try again... I hope this helps.

You will be able to tell from this where I am struggling - I did finally get the cooktop to sit on the countertop but the other issue is not yet resolved - I will look into it more tomorrow - thx all

If the layout is complicated you can even export the floor plan to AutoCAD, then import the DWG file into the family editor to have a background to build the casework from.
