No levels in project

Hello,

The issue I'm having is that I'm re-using an old project file to create a template for my workplace in Revit 2014 (will be used to upgrade to R15 and R16 projects as well). In purging and removing pieces and elements of the old project file, I've deleted all the levels/datums used in the original file.

At this point I cannot create a level or floor plan in the new file. Even when linking a new architectural file, I cannot see their levels to copy/monitor because I have no floor plans to cut sections in. Is there a way to get new levels into the project and be able to utilize this file? This is being done in Revit MEP 2014, any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Sorry, this is done in Revit 2014 NOT Revit MEP! Long Thanksgiving weekend blinded my vision!

Open a section or elevation view and add level(s) from Architecture tab, or command shortcut [LL].

There are no section or elevation views in the project browser.

In the architectual ribbon, the button to add a level is grayed out, as well as the elevation button in the view tab.

Open one floor plan, go to View tab, click on the section or elevation icon to create one. Open that view and add level(s) per my first reply.

Unfortunately in my journey of removing old pieces of information, all actual floor plans were deleted as well.

That is where the question comes in, is there a way to re-create a level when I have no floor plans or elevation views/sections available to use? Again I have no other levels in the project. When using the create plan view function from the view tab and making sure the "do not duplicate views" box is unchecked, there is nothing for me to choose from.

if you have errased everything then, for the begining go to View >Plan Views > New Floor Plan - Level 1 is shown in the list - select it and OK.

Now you have a level: Level 1

Then from View > Elevations - create the South, North ,East and West elevations.

Open one of the elevations and place the other Levels, Level 2, 3 , etc

The option is not available to create ANY floor plans. The levels themselves were deleted.

This is what I see when clicking to create a new floor plan. Again, there are no floor plans, sections, or elevation views in the project file - Just a ton of other families and custom settings.

I don't know how you managed to delete every floor plan. I thought it wasn't even possible. Maybe create a new Template and transfer your standards over.

If you try to delete the LAST level in a project, the program won't allow it, however if you select the last ones (multiple) like I did, then you can delete all of them. I must have done it in a rush to remove old datum levels.

Is there an easier way to transfer over all the settings to a new file?

Start from a standard template. Open your purged file/template as well (in the same Revit).

While in the standard template go to > Manage > Transfer Project Standards. You'll be able to select the information you want to transfer.

If you wanna save/transfer families from your purged template, go to Revit > Save As > Library > Family. Select a location to save the families to and click "Save". From there you can reload them into your new template.
