Hi all,
I am an experienced Revit user, having set up countless projects, so this really baffles me.
Product: Revit 2020
Trying to accomplish: Creating a central model from a newly-created project.
Troubleshooting: I have gone through this process using an OOTB Revit template and was able to save a central file.
Possible issue: Something wrong with my custom template file.
I am creating a brand new project. The first thing I have to do is upgrade my template file, as it is currently saved in Revit 2019. I have attempted this in two ways: 1) manually upgrading the template file by opening it up separately in Revit 2020, letting it upgrade, and saving to a new folder. 2) Choosing the R19 Template file when creating the project and letting Revit upgrade it on it's own as it begins the new project.
In both of the above attempts, I get the following error: (I have made sure to audit upon opening)
I sort of shrugged this off, because I've seen it in one other project before and it never affected me on that project. However, I suspect this is the underlying problem.
So, continuing with the project setup:
I will select Worksets, enabling worksharing.
I will then save the project for the first time, which creates the new central file. I am not yet linking anything, or doing anything with the project as it is. Invariably, I get this message:
One small detail I find odd - In Revit 2020, without having enabled worksharing or anything, I noticed both buttons in the "Manage Collaboration" panel are lit up. From my experience, the Worksharing button is always greyed out until Worksharing has been enabled (by selecting the "collaborate" button):
I have gone through this exact workflow (not that it's anything fancy) in Revit 2019, using my custom 2019 template, and it works beautifully.
Only thing I can think of is that something happened to the custom Revit template when I upgraded from 2019 to 2020. But for the life of me I do not know how I would diagnose what went wrong.
Any help/input would be greatly appreciated.
To be honest, the steel add-in error should probably be a post on it's own - to my knowledge we do not have a "Steel" add-in. No idea where this is coming from
