nested famlily deviate from level (either locked or unlock to level)

Hello,

I have a nested family which should always sticked to the level, and its size is driven by a changeable global parameter L.

When I change L, its size change accordingly but move away from the level. If I lock it to the level, it move with an error message, and if I unlock it to the level, it also move away from the level though without error message.

Any way to keep it stick to the level while its size is  changeable?

Please find pictures and rvt

Please advice

Thanks

Sounds like it is not constrained properly. Where are the "Origin" Reference Planes located in the Family? How does the Family Flex in relation to the "Origin" Ref. Planes?

...just looked at your RVT. It sounds like you are wanting the two families to act as one family inside the Project. Instead of loading them as separate Families into the Project, why don't you Nest one Family into the other and create a parametric relationship between the two in the Parent Family?  Then Load into the Project.

Is this not the same as your previous post which you have marked solved? If it is not solved by the suggestions made therein, why accept solution? You should keep it all under the same thread till you solve the issue rather than recreating the topic.

Appart from the above, you should plan the basics of the family before starting to model it.

  1. Where its origin should be,
  2. How it should behave or flex
  3. Whether it should be hosted or non-hosted
  4. ...and so on

Hello RDAOU and barthbradley,

Now if I add an new reference plane and lock the upper nested "B"  to it (rather directly lock to "A"), then it works.  I will keep other testing until it fully works, then accept your advice.

Thanks

--------------------------------------------------

In the previous post, It had been tested working once (stick to level after resize by adjust L) when it is alone without any inter-locking with other elements, but  if I lock another nested family (above) to this nested family, it move around again.

I have tried the following settings, :

- work-plane based Y/N

- origins (all options)

- set work planes

- lock model elements to Level or reference on the Level

but the nested family still move around after re-size and unable to stick to Level

Also, now I lock "b" to "a" (so "b" should follow "a" but not vise versa), but now when "b" move "a" follow "b"

I still hope to keep a locked position inside Project because I have to keep hiaraychy of nested minimum for ease of operation (though maybe a will add another level of nested  if no choice) , and this is just beginning, later the nested hiarachy would become very complicated.

Thanks

The bottom Family should be hosted to level and top family should be hosted to work plane at the top face of the bottom family
