nested family with options

Dear forum members,

I have searched the internet half but did not find anything.

I am an intern at a buildingcompany that works with revit. I know the program by name but not everything bout it.(working with ArchiCad on college) Yet I have in the course of the weeks familiarized myself into making parametric familys.

Now I am currently working on creating a family of one window. windowbrand CBAA to be exact. the first window family which I started. I have made diffrent familys. Now we want to select in this windowbrand the glass to be HR++ or HR+++ glass and with ventilation and without ventilation. Of course I could create a family type of the frame with HR ++ glass and ventilation and one without.

Example:

windowbrand CBAA1 1440x1000 - HR++ - with ventilation
windowbrand CBAA1 1440x1000 - HR++
windowbrand CBAA1 1440x1000 - HR+++ - with ventilation
windowbrand CBAA1 1440x1000 - HR+++
windowbrand CBAA2 1660x1000 - HR++ - with ventilation
etc. etc.

But with this method we get a huge long list!! Because my job is to make an libary of all the windowbrands of the supplier
Is it maybe possible that I make the familys (glass and ventilation) as an option in the nested family during modeling?

At the moment i have the ventilation downloaded as an BIM model from the supplier 'buva'.

I have diffrent familys of HR++ glass and HR+++ glass with and without the ventilation.

Now i need a method where i can check ventilation on or that i after i put in the right windowbrand in the architecure project model.

I can click on the glass of the windowbrand and that i can choose there for the options.

We dont want to have an huge list of types wich one size.

hope my question is understandble. i from the netherlands, because english is not my main languages some instructions what i need to do is hard for me to understand. if somebody knows what i need to do, can show a videolink of an tutorial that is alot more easier for me. Smiley Happy

Thanks!

Here are some pictures of what i got.

you will need to use the yes/no parameter to show or not show glazing which is or is not ventilated.

Depending on the complexity of the combined families and the number of combinations you have two main options.

1) Use Visibility parameters - simply select the nested family and click on its Visible parameter and link this to a yes/no parameter within the family.  When you load it into your project you can then turn it's visiblity on and off.

2) Use the Family Types parameter to swap between loaded families of a specific Family Category - e.g. windows, generic models etc.  To do this load in your various sub families and then place one of them where you want it, locking it to the required ref planes.  Now assign a new Family Type parameter to this.  When you access this within the parameters you will see it is a drop down listing all the Families of that type.

Note, there are a few limitations / things to watch with this second option.  Firstly you need to use the same  named reference planes in each family - so the bottom is always the same location left is the same etc.  Secondly this function is limited in that it only supports primary categories so if both the glazing and the ventilation are loaded then both of these will appear in the list so you need to think about how that would be dealt with.

I've linked to a very quick and dirty screencast to try and show how this works - sorry, there's no dialogue.
