Nested Family Shared but tag still wont work

Hello!

I have a family with a couple of nested families inside it and when I go to tag it, it will allow me to tag the host family and some of the nested families, just not the ones I want! I have triple checked they are all shared. I have visibility parameters on all of the nested families but this does not affect the ability to tag the ones I don't want to tag so it shouldn't be affecting the ones I do want to tag. I have tried tabbing through options of course but the tag I want doesn't come up as an option and I just get the error sound.

The other frustration is that I have the nested family I want to tag brought in as a family by itself and it tags perfectly.

All the families are just generic families as these are just tests to see the best way to build these objects so maybe I need to change them in to different categories to avoid this problem.

I opened one of your nested families, and "Shared" was not checked. Others were shared. I loaded it into the host family, loaded the host into the project, overwrote shared components, and then I can tag all the "floors".

Comments: it is not necessary to create individual families of the same thing (the 'floor'). That could be just 1 shared family with multiple types.

You can nest the floors as seperate family/families with "shared" checked in properties inside the family you have right now, then you can tag those seperately in the project environment...

What you have done is that you've created your types controlled completely by visibility parameters for all the geometry in your family (which is a feat in itself), while what you want to do is use nested components (that are shared).

Thanks, I think there was something wrong cause when I closed Revit and restarted and then started back at the first nested family and loaded in when it got to the end it finally gave me the option to update it.

Yeah I think I've made an absolute mountain out of a molehill with the build due to inexperience. I'll certainly go back and rebuild in a more efficient way at a later date. Cheers for the links!
