Nested family losing material association

Hey There,

 

This is probably a really basic question, but I am having trouble keeping the nested (door family) material associated after I have put them into a door type graphic parameter. The doors change fine from the family types category but the material association of each door goes back to unassociated. 

 

If you have any ideas as to what I am doing clearly very obviously wrong that would be great. 

 

Revit 2026 version 

 

I will upload the very basic family

you need to associate the material for the extrusion in the instance parameter  and chose a default material in the type parameters

check the below snaps.

Hey There,

 

Thanks for that suggestion unfortunately when I change the door type (from Shaker to Plain) in the family types menu the door material slips back to an unassociated material parameter.

Thanks for your help I realised that in the door families I had two different types of material parameter names, subsequently when the door type change there was a discrepancy and it dissociated the materials
