Good afternoon, I'm a bit frustrated when trying to "not display door mullion sweeps in Front view, or Plan view" when nesting families. Example. I've created a French Door with Grid Patterns via Sweep. The door itself is a faced base family that I insert into a "Door family". When I sent the visibility of the grids (to Uncheck Plan View, Front View, and Side View") when I insert into door family they are not visible. So if I leave checked, they show up in my door family...BUT....
when I load into project they are still visible and I don't want them to be visible in my project, and only want my symbolic lines to show up.
Could someone help me by sending me a link to the proper way (steps) assign visibility settings to items when nesting inside other families?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

There are two levels of assigning visibility
Create the geometry for the family you are about to nest. Nest the family into the destination family
1) Select the nested family. Look at it's Properties. You will see Visibility. Next to Visibility you will see a little button - click it. This will take you to the Associate Parameters dialog box. You will be able to select an existing parameter to control the visibility of the nested family, or even create a whole new yes/no parameter to associate visibility control to.
2) When you insert the resulting family into your project, you will be able to control visibility of your nested family by selecting it and looking in its Properties. Instance parameters will show up in the Properties palette, Type parameters will show up when you click Edit Type.
A note - as you create geometry, make sure to check its visibility graphics controls - it's a long button next to the Visibility checkbox. In that you will be able to control the visibility of solid geometry in Plan, 3D, Right or Left views. Symbolic lines do not have these controls since they are only visible in a parallel view.
Apologies for the lack of visual aids - I don't have families open to refer to!
If you host a face based family on a vertical surface or plane, the Elevation view of the host family is looking at the Plan view of the nested family. So, in the face based family, you need check the box Display in Plan/RCP for elements you want to show on Elevation in the host family and subsequently, in the Project.
