nested family element visibility settings...

Just playing around with a door family trying to make it a bit more robust when it's altered and it's thrown something a little strange.  Could be I'm just doing something silly but I'll explain anyway and maybe someone can put me right...

I have a 3 layer nested family.  The bottom layer is a 2D representation of the door.  Next layer up is the 3d representation of the door leaf itself.  This intermediate family controls the door swing angle and in this family I have the 3D element set to not show in plan and for both the 3D element and the 2D element set to to not show at coarse level of detail.

Now when I load this into the main door family (upper layer) and then load it into a project the visibility based on detail level works as expected but the door leaf (3D element) still shows in plan...

Is it not possible to control this element of visibilty when using nested families?

Cheers

K.

It should be possible to get it to work. However sometimes it gets confusing when nested families are rotated in the host families.

At that moment what is plan and what is front with regards to visbility settings?

So I expect this is what i shappening in your family.

Ah, I see what you are saying.  I'll check that and see if it sorts the problem.

@Keith_Wilkinson, I have just come across the exact same problem. I haven't come across this before. Did you manage to solve your issue? I have an ensuite family with nested components, but they aren't respecting the detail level. Surely I am doing something wrong, I really hope I am doing something wrong. Please tell me I am doing something wrong, haha.
In image attached the basin to the side is loaded straight into the project, the other is nested into the bathroom family as you can see, they display different things because course detail turns the overhead cpbd off.

False Alarm! Phew! I forgot to set the family to be shared. :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:

I have the same problem but if I make the family shared, I cannot connect its parameters to the host family. In my case I have a door with a sidelight and I have nested my door panel in my door with sidelight opening. What I want is to be able to link their parameters like width and height together and I wont be able to do that if the family is shared. Please advice if there is another way?

You need to make the parameters you want to link Instance parameters - this is because the shared family will have 'types' within the project and the parent family won't be able to adjust those.

So if you make them instance, then select the family in the parent you will be able to link these back to type parameters as required.
