Good day,
I have different rack profiles assembled as families.
These profiles consist of different parts:
1. Pedestal
2. Frame
2.1. Brace
2.2. Upright
3. Beam
Please refer to the images:
The third image shows different rack profiles connected together, this however requires two frame instances to be placed in the same place. I would like to know how/if I could prevent needing to place two frames on top of one another. I presume it would be good practice and also more efficient to not have double instances of the frames in the same place. I would also know how to resolve this issue for counting purposes.
I hope that the solution is not to simply place the frames, pedestals and beams in the project separately - as this would be tedious.
Let me know if I need to upload my families?
Thanks in advance,
Connor

I would use an (instance) visibility parameter to certain elements of the family.
Then you can switch of the overlapping parts of the family inside the project.
Instead of using instance parameters you also can use type parameters. Then you would create different types of rack profiles with ad without some part visible. Then you would place different types of the family in your project

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.
Hi Louis,
Thanks for your response.
The instance/type parameter makes sense. Just to check - could I then set the frame count value according to the instance/type? So that one instance counts two frames, and the other instance counts one frame? I'll figure out how to do it myself, just want to know that its possible.
Regards,
Connor
Yes, if you have set it up properly nested families that are not visible will not be counted
