Hey, so i wondering to start learning Revit software since i like architecture and modeling, but my doubts is will i be able to find work where i could use my learnt knowledge without similar education? I have Bachelor degree in International business but i think its not related with revit or architecture. So i am afraid i will waste some years by learning software and then will not be able to find job related to it. So just need some honest opinions, maybe some real life stories about similar situation any advice would be appreciated. Sorry for mistakes.
Revit is used by the Architectural, Structural, MEP, and Interior Design disciplines. A position utilizing Revit in any one of those disciplines would require Revit skills of a high order supported by education in those disciplines.
any job that will require Revit will also req your bachelor or grad studies related to that. If you rare rally is interested, I think you can join 2 years BIM diploma which will serve as a foundation also you will learn Revit.
Actually an Associates degree in CAD would be helpful now that I think of it.
It sounds like you are in the wrong line. If you would like to do architecture, you need to start studying something related to that. Revit is a tool that is currently used in that industry. It's just one though and some architectural firms will use alternative software, such as Archicad.
Revit is an expensive software to get if you are interested in modelling - have you tried something like Sketchup, which would be more accessible?
I have a friend graduated from education, but she has a passion doing drafting so one day she applies in a medium size architecture firm as apprentice they gave her a chance even though she has no background in the architectural field over the years working in that firm she study architecture and graduated and now is she also a licensed architect and become associate in that firm she works. If you have a passion you can do it. Thanks ![]()
I've met a few people who were self taught that were much better at their job than people with a formal education.
Well i think its too late for me to be architect. I just really like making sketches, modeling houses and making them on software like Revit. I just really enjoy doing it and thinking would it be possible to find job in this sector. It doesn't has to be Revit it can be other software, but i find Revit most interesting for now. I am 31 years old, with loan, expecting a baby with my wife so i don't know when i would be able to study something or if i will be able to study at all.
if you really want to learn you can start from here Autodesk Academy a revit tutorial you will pick something. goodluck. thanks
Revit is just a tool. If you are not able to drive why do you need a Ferrari for?
At least you must have a basic knowledge of "what" you want to model.
If you like using BIM technology and model whatsover elements you may focus on becaming BIM Modeller for companies (e.g. Families) where no Ing. skills are required, focusing mostly on modelling skills.
Will is power, but you should be a bit realistic too.
