Need help converting 2015 rvt file to dwg?

Hello All,

I have been given a file from 2015 Revit (I think) and my architect disappeared. I have handed it to a new architect that only has 2014 AutoCad and thus cannot open it. Is there anyone in the forum that could help convert the file? I tried to upload the file but its too large, please email me and I can send it.

Thanks in advance,

Keith

This will not be possible. Revit is not backwards compatible. So a file made (or upgraded to) Revit 2015 or 2016 can not be converted or will not open in Revit 2014.

- If he only has to view the model he can download Revit 2015 or 2016 version and use that software as viewer software.

- If he has to work with the model hehas to upgrade to 2015 or 2016.

- Final possbility would be to export (from Revit 2015 or 2016) the model to IFC and good chance he can load it in 2014. However all Revit intelligence will be lost.

He only has AutoCad so I was hoping the file could be converted from .rvt to .dwg to be opened in AutoCad? Is that possible?

kutscherhaus - this is a simple fix if you're able to use the Architects computer with Revit on it. Is it possible to have your Architect quickly open the file and export it as a dwg? If not, then I think you're out of luck. I don't know of any converter online that could help you in this type of scenario. Good luck!
Tip - Make sure "export views on sheets and links as external references" is unchecked.

Unfortunately the old architect has disappeared so thats why I was asking for someone that has Revit to convert for me. I appreciate the help Frick. B.

I also tried the demo version but of course its read only. This is my last hope before having to pay someone to re-do it.

You're probably doing some modifications to your project, however, if you just need to view the file, you could just go here:
https://360.autodesk.com/viewer
You won't be able to export from it but you can at least view the documents that were on the Revit file. Hope that is somewhat helpful.

EnlInt will hopefully be able to download that file and get it worked out for you - he/she helped me in the past.

I have been taking a look at the revit file (it is indeed Revit 2015). It is a bit of a mess. Maybe somebody was bit in over his head?

After opeining the file I get this view (screenshot)

01-Opening.png

Basically it is an area plan. These area plans are imported dwg files. To the right you seem layouts of a house and some side views

Further you notice that two of (more or less) the same area plans are overlapping with an offset.

In the left bottom corner you see basically a same area plan with the layouts (still dwg) but at a much smaller scale.

Zooming in to that area:

02-Zoom In.png

Indeed the same area plans with layouts of a house

Next to the two layouts you see a square box. This is the Revit model of a building.

If I create a 3D View I see this (hid the roof to be able to look inside)

02-Model.png

So this buiilding does not look like anything on the other layouts.

This building also looks far from complete and a lot seems to be missing.

It seems that this revit file has been 'cleaned'. Most of the views are gone, many families seems to be missing and also no sheets are present.

From the above screenshot what is it (if any) that you want to have converted to autocad?

If I personally look at this Revit Project I think your new architect will find it much easier to start with a clean slate

Maybe that is why the first Architect disappeared?

Enlint,

Thank you for opening!!! Basically this is just a porch addition to my house. I am not sure what the 3rd 3D image is of but I dont think I need it as, you are correct, doesnt look like my house. If you could convert the top two that would be great.

Attached an exported dwg file (2010). this part seems the one with the most logical dimensions.

It contains the area plan, the two layouts and two elevation views.

I hope this will be enough to continue work.

Thank you Enlint,

Been dealing with this for weeks. I will send it to my new architect and hope for the best. I think he mentioned he had AutoCad version 2011 and 2014, do you think he will be able to open this file?

Yes should be. Saved it in Autocad 2010. So he should be able to open it in both versions.

If there are questions about the conversions or need some additional conversions let me know through private message on this forum and I will see what I can do.
