Naming files via parameters

Hi Experts!

I have a question about naming files. Is it at all possible to set up a system where we use parameters to name files. For example, I am working on a large project and we are issuing drawings daily. We like to have the drawing number, then the drawing name and the what revision the drawing is on. Once I've printed to PDF or exported to DWG I have to go and rename my files. It's not hard and I'm not being lazy, but just for economy and precision, it would be better if I could set up a template and have Revit name my files correctly the first time. Is this at all possible?

Regards

There is not a way to do this with tools inside of Revit. I imagine there could be a method where parameters could be pulled out of the Revit file and stored in an intermediate file (CSV, XLS, TXT) and then some kind of file naming utility used to then read the intermediate file and rename all of the files produced and stored in some folder. This is by no means "Automatic" but it might be possible and once setup might not be too difficult to setup to do over and over again easily.

To do it would for sure require some outside applications and perhaps some customizations of some kind.

Thanks Jeff

Is it possible for Revit to built it into the next upgrade instead of us using add-ons or another program?

You can post it as an idea to the Revit Idea Station. http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/idb-p/302/tab/most-recent

It is obviously possible, as RVT Xporter provides the function to create a bespoke export file name using your project parameters.

Could we please request that Autodesk add this to Revit 2017 asap to the export function?
