my custom panel does not fit in the pattern of a mass

Hello, I am experimenting with custom panels for  a mass but it always goes out fo proportion. I draw the profile within the borders of the patern but still it happens just like in the picture below. Any ideas?
i am using generic model pattern based family template and I tried the generic model adaptive template too.. I don't seem to get the right results. Please help!

Interesting. What's your Adaptive Points "Orient to" parameter set to?

Hi

1. Adaptive points are numbered  Ex 1,2, 3, 4

2. while placing those on grid, you have to follow that sequence correctly else the panel wont come correctly.

3. the thickness of panel is not locked... you may need four more points exactly above 1, 2, 3, 4 and locked in position

and the distance between those points and adaptive points becomes the thickness of panel..

4. you may give a dimension to that thickness and create a thickness parameter and use it layer...

@Anonymous: Forget about my "Orient to" suggestion. I can't replicate your issue with any of the "Orient to" parameter settings.

How are you attaching your pattern-based family to the divided surface? Like I show in this screenshot?

Hello Ganesh. I believe I wasn't working right with the reference and detail lines. I managed to draw one ad make it fit perfectly, but still I believe your suggestions are on point.
I believe I need more lessons on the fundamentals of these and adaptive components. Any idea of a nice free tutorial?

I believe the mistake is in the drawing of the panel, not in the attachment of it.

Lots of videos on you tube..

get some clarity between pattern based panel and adaptive panels etc.

Its really hard to keep a note cause there are so many steps to follow in a sequence..

so only way is to practice and keep some families ready to reuse...

Best luck

Basic steps to create an Adaptive family:

- add Points and make them Adaptive, the number of Points is based on you divided surface pattern, remember the sequence of the Adaptive ID because it is important when you place it

- select each two Points make a Reference Line, more than two Points will make a Curve

- select the closed Reference Lines to create a Form, assign a parameter to control the thickness

- do not add dimension/angle between Adaptive Points, if you do, they must be Reporting Instance parameters

I thank you kind sir! If there are any other additional catches, I would be grateful.

I'm still not understanding why you can't just use your Pattern-Based Curtain Panel the way it is intended to be used: on a Pattern-Based Divided Surface.    ...Just the way I showed up above.   Works like a charm for me, and I ain't even the brightest bulb in the room.

That is exactly what I am doing. I am good now. I mean, I was not doing it right. I drew the family correctly and than attaching it was just process.  Thank you for your help!

I looked correct in your first screenshot. If I may ask, what did you do wrong to get it to act so funky?  Or, what did you do right to correct the funky behavior?
