Multistorey Staircase stringer to align with earlier landing

Hello everyone,

I am trying to build a monolithic multi-storey staircase, but am not able to get its bottom correct.

StairCase2.jpg

The line crossed in red should be invisible and the green line should be visible. How do you get this, in case of multi-storey stairs? We do get this in 2-level stairs as shown in the orange circle?

Many Thanks,

Ketan

Hi @Anonymous,

Multi-stories stairs are a delicate problem to deal with...

What you need is the junction of your stair with your landing to work well...

Issue with multi-stories stairs is that it is EXACTLY the same stairs rthat are repeated from floor to floor.

So, as your first flight doesn't extend underneath level 0, the second flight doesn't..

And diffrent stair types can or cannot do it!

You need to think differently. Your landing is not a landing, it should be a floor. Landing as designed by Revit are made to join two flights of stairs, but not to join a floor to a flight... Don't ask me why.

Well, the solution I have used for my part in a project is to make only ONE stair that goes two floors high (it requires your floor hights to be a multiple of your riser or to be equal), is which case the landing does join properly. You will experience a few issues with automatic railing though.

Second solution is to make your stairs floor by floor...

Hope this clarifies why you are having your issues,

Cheers,

François

Hi @FGPerraudin,

I can't really understand how this got created. It just happened accidentally and am not able to figure out how it did. But anyways it is still halfway towards the required solution.

StairCase3.jpgFor now, till Revit comes up with a solution, I would be using floor-to-floor stairs rather than multi-storey, though going to be a lot laborious.

Actually Revit IS heading towards a solution, you should check Revit 2018 new features! (not sure it will solve your specific issue, but is getting there!)

Cheers,

@ToanDN, the way you are able to play with Revit, you are truly an inspiration. But poor me, am still not able to get it. Here's the screenshot of the type as well as instance properties with the section. I have also added a floor a the first 2 levels, i.e. at 4 & 5.StairCase4.jpg

I just can't thank you enough.

- The multi-story stairs start from Level 2.  The reason is that I do not want the base of lowest flight (@ Level 1) to extend below the floor so there is a clean line between the stair and the floor.  You can start the multi-story stair from Level 1 if you don't care about this knit-picking issue.

- I had to add a landing at top of the stairs so the upper flight has something to extend to.

- I set the lower flight of the multi-story stair to -6" below base

Attached is the 2017 file.  Let me know if you need another version.

For some reason you image was not showing up when I read your message the first time.  Now I can see it and it looks like you have everything covered except for the top landing of the multi-story stair.  Edit the stair and manually add the landing by draw the boundary and that should be it.

Hi @ToanDN,

All working fine with the stairs, except for this line-work showing up.

StairCase5.jpg

The line crossed in red shouldn't be visible. I tried joining, it doesn't work. For the time being I can use "Line-Work" tool to set these lines "Invisible". But isn't there the perfect Revit BIM solution?

Many Thanks for your help.

The lines there are unavoidable, unfortunately. Multi-story stairs are a
stack of multiple stairs, and one stair cannot join to anything else for
the time being. Let's hope it will be improved in future releases.
