Moving a building on the site

I've imported a cad survey plan and used shared co-ordinates from the cad file to get the correct geographic data in my model.

I've created topography and a building in the same model.

We've decided to push the house forward by 4m on the site, and lower the building by 600mm.

I can't figure out how to do this whilst keeping the integrity of the shared co-ordinate system from the cad survey.

I explored separating the model and site into two different models. I've then imported the building model into the site model and shifted the buildings position on the site.

The problem I have is when I publish the co-ordinates to the building model, then link the site model into the building model. The position of the building in plan gets updated, but the elevation of the building doesn't. If I try to use the relocated model tool to adjust the levels, I can get the levels aligning, but then I end up with the building sitting 600mm higher on the site that it should be.

There's a lot of discussion online around this topic, but I'm struggling to find what is the best approach to solve my situation. Some guidance on this would be much appreciated.

There's a lot to unpack here. My suggestion would be to a breather from your project and spend a hour or two reading (and re-reading if necessary) the  following PDF. I think that I can guarantee to a certainty, that  when you are done, who will be smarter than the average bear out there when to comes to this stuff.

Microsoft Word - Aubin_Revit_Coordinates_2016.docx

Thanks @barthbradley , I will take a read of that. In the mean time I think I've solved it. But it was a messy process of trial and error with a nagging feeling that I could have done something wrong along the way.

In short the process that seems to have worked was this:

1/. Separate my model into two - the site and the building model

2/. Link the building model into the site model and reposition to new desired location.

3/. Under Manage - Project Location tab, selected co-ordinates, publish co-ordinates and select the building model.

I could only get publish co-ordinates to work for adjustments in plan direction, and not vertical height. This doesn't seem logical to me, but I used the next step to change my models elevation.

4/. Open the building model and adjust the Project Base Point to suit the desired new elevation. In my case I wanted my building to be lowered on the sire by 600mm, so I increased the PBP by +600mm

5/. Open site model. Under Manage - Project Location tab - Position - Relocate project. Shift building in site model to align with site levels.

You can't have linked models open at the same time, so it's a bit of a nuisance opening and closing files.

I think this has solved my problem, but it seems illogical. Ideally you could just adjust the building position in the linked site model, then publish the position to the building model which would update its plan and elevation to align. That would be a very satisfactory and straight forward way of managing this.

That is one correct way to do it.

Another way is to link the site in the building and acquire coordinates.

If models are in BIM360, you can't publish coordinates, only acquire.

Considering that you are able to publish the N/E, one can rule out the cause BIM 360.

If it is not what the publish/acquire is doing then you still have something which isn't set up right (seems in the site model).
