I have a model here, and I have had difficulty in general moving of materials and not able to cut the corner of joists to make it more realistic. First image as you can see I need to place the timber on the corner of the roof, however, I am unable to do so, any suggestions why? I understand you can double click on the beam then opens up a family editor, however how can this be edited into the relationship of the rest of the building, as one needs guidance of specific rotations and lengths. And secondly, I have an issue with the top corner of the eves, as I want to cut them, is there a way to make it join up or just cut?
moving general things around I find difficult as it does not snap to anything...
I have attached an example of how I want my roof to be done below.

Hello! a few little things that will hopefully help you out! Don't know if you have 3D snap on but that should help with some of your rafters. Also to get better connections between the rafter and the ridge use the notch tool.

3D Snap
Hi, thank you for the reply, however, I am running on 2016 revit, don't think there is 3D snap and also for the notch, it looks like its not working for timber.
any other suggestions?
Thank you
Below is a screen grab from Revit 2016 with the 3D snap option highlighted. This can be found when you draw a new beam or edit an existing beam. As for the notch tool, screen grab below where i have used the notch tool on timber. To use the notch tool first select the beam you want to cut (In your case the truss member) then select the thing you want to cut it with (In your case the ridge beam) Hope this has cleared things up a bit for you!

3d snap tool when drawing beams
I really cannot find the 3d snap, also when I select my truss member, and click on the notch icon, it then will not allow me to click on anything else, don't know why?
When you select the beam tool it should appear along the bottom of your tool bar, although it could also be at the bottom of your screen. For the notch tool select the notch tool first then pick the rafter then the ridge beam. What tool have you use to draw your trusses so far?

Can I send you the model for you to have a look at it? and spot anything wrong with it
Thank you
I've reattached your project. I think it was possibly the beam type wasnt allowing your 3d snap so ive replaced it with one that will which should make your life much easier! I've not done much to it but its a bit tidier and easier to work with!
Thank you so much! really helpful. Sorry to be a pain, but how can one rotate the building as such when one presses one side of the 3d cube, it faces it correctly?
Thank you
Rotated Version attached. I selected everything in 3D grouped it the rotated it in plan
Hi, I wanted to know how did you change the type of timber, can you do a video or screenshot of how, as I get an error, when I match the roof truss timber with the joist. I want them the same, can you tell me how?
Thank you
Hello, having a look at this for you now, can i ask how did you create your glulam elements in the first instance?
Hi, I really do not remember, however you did change them for me to allow it to be easily modified, and I wanted to know how you did it
Appreciate your help
Essentially I redrew them using the default dimension timber beams as i encountered the same issues as yourself i couldn't get the beams to match properties but still remain with the same level of editability. Its something to do with the way your glulam beams have been created (that's why you didn't have access to the 3D snap) What you'll have to do to get them to match your original glulam beams is duplicate the new dimension timber beams and edit they're type properties to what you require. So duplicate rename as required then change the breadth and depth to suite what you need. Does that all make sense?
Hi, I have the roof trusses which is the ones that are editable, however, I tired to change the type of the floor joist, it gives me this error, seen in the image. How can I overcome this problem? I tired duplicating but wouldn't let me enter in any parameters.
in your first screen grab what to do is when you copy the roof truss to change it to a floor joist instead of rotating it make the start and end level offsets the same. (start offset 100 end offset 100) that will make the truss level.
